INKED BABY

A new play by Christina Anderson

Featuring

Michael Genet • Damon Gupton

LaChanze • Angela Lewis • Nana Mensah

Nikkole Salter • Tobias Truvillion

Directed by Kate Whoriskey

“Man, is it hard love or tough love I’m tryin’ to do?” Stuck for money and unable to conceive, Gloria (Tony Award®-winner LaChanze, The Color Purple) enlists the aid of her sister to make the child that she and her husband can’t.   As they uneasily await the baby’s arrival, a mysterious contamination spreads in their neighborhood. But consumed by their struggles, is anyone paying attention?  In this imaginative, other-worldly new drama, one family fights to find its place in a neglected neighborhood.

One of American Theater magazine’s 15 up-and-coming artists “whose work will be transforming America’s stages for decades to come,” Christina Anderson makes her off-Broadway debut with Inked Baby.

Kate Whoriskey previously directed Fabulation at Playwrights Horizons. Other recent NYC directing work includes The Piano Teacher, Oroonoko, and Ruined.

How to Love A Black Man
After playing to sold out performances in Atlanta, Washington D.C., Montgomery, Alabama  and Phoenix, AZ. Playwright Deron Cloud has finally released his critically acclaimed “How to Love A Black Man” on DVD to view as a FREE live stream or as a FREE download. Just in time for “Valentine’s Day”Why Free you ask? The answer is simple, this is Deron’s way of saying thank you to all of those that have supported the many productions that he has performed over the years, and to introduce others to the show.Read the following and if you or any one you know can relate to any of this,  you need this show…Although I loved my wife I almost drove her crazy just by being me!  She tried to love me, but my anger always seemed to push her away.  This production is my confession, as well as my apology to my wife.  It’s also an apology to women who fall in love with Black Men.  This by far will be the rawest production I’ve ever done.  I’m telling my life’s story of love, marriage, I’m telling it all, I’m telling exactly how it happened!  I’m not holding back any punches, and I’m not cutting any words.  I’ve been married for fifteen years, and in those years I’ve taken my wife to the alter, to hell, and then back!  Through it all, we’re still together, and now we’re in love again!  Do you know how to love a Black Man?  Let me teach you with my confession…

Harlem Heights: BET’s Newest Reality Showcases Young Buppie Life Uptown

By Karu F. Daniels, BlackVoices.com

The BET audience has certainly matured – even on the reality TV front.

Five years ago, TV and film producer Tracey Edmonds introduced the groundbreaking series, ‘College Hill,’ which chronicled the ups and downs of students at a historically black college in the south. Two years ago, the network launched, ‘Baldwin Hills,’ a younger spin on the drama – this time revolving around the lives of black teenagers in and around a tony section of Los Angeles.

In 2009, real adulthood sets in with ‘Harlem Heights,’ premiering March 2 at 10:00 p.m.

No student loans, campus confusion, prom date dilemmas or parental advisory on deck for this show, created by MTV industry insiders Randolph Sturrup and Kurt Williamson.

For the new show, it’s all grown and sexy business for and by young, black, urban professionals setting out to make their way in the world. Each person joins the series at a defining moment in his or her life

And it all takes place in Harlem USA.

The series features a diverse cast of eight young adults from various backgrounds. BlackVoices.com has an exclusive sneak peek at the Facebook-friendly cast members from BET’s most-buzzed about new show. Take a look.
