(New York, NY – July 10, 2009) — 46664 and the Nelson Mandela foundation announced the release of newly available tickets in VIP locations for the Mandela Day Concert celebration at Radio City Music Hall on Nelson Mandela’s 91st birthday Saturday, July 18 at 8 pm. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Josh Groban, Alicia Keys, Will.i.am, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, Dave Stewart, Lil Kim, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Jesse McCartney, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Gaynor, Zuccero and African Artists such as The Soweto Gospel Choir, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Chris Chameleon, Angelique Kidjo, Baaba Maal, Freshlyground, Emmanuel Jal, Loyiso, Sipho Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, Thandiswa Mazwai and Suzanna Owiyo will be among the star-studded lineup of Artists performing. Special guests Whoopi Goldberg, Forest Whitaker, Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon and Susan Sarandon will also be in attendance. This unique, one off event promises to be a seamless three hour concert which not only has a fantastic line up of the best of both African and American Artists, who are illustrating their support for Mandela Day, but also includes exclusive special collaborations. The Mandela Day concert at Radio City Music hall, will be the only opportunity to experience Aretha Franklin performing with Josh Groban; Cyndi lauper and Lil’ Kim; Will.i.am and Jesse McCartney; Alicia Keys and Angelique Kidjo.
This celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life wills serve as a global call to action for people to recognize their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better. 46664 is calling on people around the world to support the creation of an official Mandela Day, to be held annually on July 18th. The concert is the culmination of a week-long series of events in New York City in celebration of Mandela Day. The activities include a Ralph Appelbaum designed installation of Mr. Mandela’s life and the work of his many 46664 ambassadors, as well as a gala fundraising dinner, both at Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall.
