THE STORY IS OURS. THE PLACE IS AMERICA.
THE TIME IS

AT THE DAWN OF A NEW CENTURY, everything is changing…and anything is possible. Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, RAGTIME The Musical returns to Broadway in an acclaimed new production as ravishing as it is relevant. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, RAGTIME weaves together three distinctly American tales — that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician — united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories are set to a glorious, Tony Award®-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. Based on the classic E. L. Doctorow novel, RAGTIME also features an extraordinary, Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a majestic 28-piece orchestra and a vibrant cast of 40.

THE FILM: WAR CHILD
“Left home at the age of seven/one year later I’m carryin’ an Ak-47.” In this documentary we meet hip hop artist Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier in Sudan’s brutal civil war, for whom these lyrics are hardly empty posturing. They are the bitter reality of a young man who was “forced to sin” but determined to “never give up and never give in.
For more information on the film visit: www.warchildmovie.com
THE MUSIC: BAJAH & THE DRY EYE CREW
After packing the national stadium for Hailing from Sierra Leone, this group has generated so much buzz in the hip-hop world that major stars including ?uestlove and Black Thought of the Roots, Talib Kweli, K’Naan, Res, and El-P have contributed their vocal and/or production talents to their upcoming release. After packing the national stadium for performances in their home country of Sierra Leone and contributing music to the Academy Award-nominated film Blood Diamond, African superstars Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew are poised to conquer the global airwaves with their international debut album (due out in fall 2009) and their unique sound, which blends the swagger and funk of hip-hop, the passion and energy of dancehall, and the socially conscious vibe of reggae. PLEASE COME TO THESE SHOWS THEY ARE BEING TAPED!!!

milDRED, the artist formerly known as DRED performs a particularly mystical form of gender-illusioning, and one woMan show. Her act is less a typical impersonation and more a challenge to societal ideas of what it means to be male or female, while reminding the audience that there’s some of each in everyone. It’s no surprise that DRED’s motto is “Love all of who you are….” The milDRED Love experience is a poetic, funky, fly, supernatural-high, comedic, thought-provoking and musical performance on gender-fluidity, and freedom of expression. From a gender alchemist named NOTTY DRED to a gender bending diva name DREDICIA, get your spirit tickled!!!

  1. You always have interesting shows advertised and I personally recommend Venus Adore (Fantastic Singer/Performer/Host), Dred-WHEN SHE WAS KING (Incredible entertaining and Learning experience) and NIGHT WATCHERS (seen last night- Awesome Performance and story). Those are 3 I have seen and been involved with and the shows are exciting, entertaining and eye opening and very well performed. Thanks Kevin for always keeping us aware of all the great entertainment out there that we should support with your Blog.
